One of the advantages of working for ArtsHub is that it has opened up a fun passion for me, which is to write about hobbies I enjoy. So recently at the 2009 Melbourne Comedy Festival I jumped at the chance to review some preview shows.
The first show I saw was Celia Pacquola – Am I Strange? at the Melbourne Town Hall. She was absolutely fantastic, a great young Australian talent. The full review is available at www.ArtsHub.com.au.
The second show was on – and from than on known as “Freaky Friday” was Jim Jeffries – Hellbound. And man – he was funny! Like real – f**K political correctness, strip away all conformity and let it rip baby!! We had fun doing his review and you can check it out on Arts Hub as well.
What we didn’t enjoy was the Comedy Bar at the town hall after the show. We had our drinks spiked, handbag stolen, and some young punk follow me into the girls loo. I turned and just let all feminism anger let absolutely rip at him because it was he’s friend who stole the bag running off like a weird little peacock, and i’m like WTF are you following for me.
The security guard did nothing, the bar man seemed to be friends with the dude, and everything just went blurred and bizarre, like i was floating around the room but not actually moving. Time to go home. We reported the incident to the police and there wasn’t much they would do – infact nothing – about being drugged because it’s hard to prove (so yeah – why bother). They took a report on the handbag being stolen and said they’d to CCTV search but suggested don’t expect much back.
So word of warning – have a great night, but don’t buy drinks from the bar!
