I love this bike! In Victoria we are restricted to 250cc in the first year of your licence. This makes getting a reasonably priced, comfortable and fast (well learner fast) bike difficult. There small, some just look crap. You could get a racing Aprilla 125 – but i’m not into sounding like a mosquito on speed every time I want to have a relaxing ride.
Stephanie BySouth Kawasaki ZZR 250CCI did consider buying a cruiser; I had day dreams of kicking back, relaxing, getting a sun tan while streaming around the country side. That illusion went out the door quickly when I test rode a Honda cruiser. Lounging like a lazy lizard with your arms flying out like your doing a Michael Jackson zombie impression just didn’t suit me. Some people love it, and they ride those lounges really well. But – for me, i wanted to be in the bike, be the bike, and fly across the road not glide to the horizon.
Given I had weak wrist muscles I didn’t go for the sports bike (GPX) but the sports tourer model. Great centre of gravity, light – so easy to pick up. The riding position isn’t like you’ve got a pole going straight up your spine, but it’s not too far forward that you feel like your going to scrap your nose on the bitumen.
For looks – these zzr puppies are fantastic! If i had a dollar for everytime I was asked if it was 500 or 650 i’d be able to afford a new 500 or 650!!! Given mine is silver and not puke coloured, the illusion of a bigger bike is reinforced.
I was tossing up between the Honda VTR 250 and this for a wee bit. But when it came down to it, the Kawasaki has enKawasaki zzr blackgine grunt – absolutely no problems dropping a gear, revving up and taking over on the freeway. OK, the VTR can do this as well because it’s also a twin cylinder. The only way I can explain the difference was that the Honda felt plastic, and the Kawasaki solid. The solidity is reinforced from the tank size and feel. When your dropping your sholder into a corner and thighs are gripping the tank I didn’t feel unstable. I guess the Honda just didn’t fit my thighs! It certainly is food for thought because once you start doing long rides, any initial discomfort is escalated.
